Alicante is a city in south-eastern Spain and capital of the Alicante Province. It is a seaport on the Mediterranean Sea with an excellent fishing fleet and ferries to Algeria. It is in a fertile agricultural region, and noted for wines (Vino Alacant). Other products of interest include olives, almonds, oranges, dates, rice, and barley.
Alicante has a thriving airport located 11km south of Alicante city. Alicante airport now handles nearly 8,000,000 passengers per annum making it an important Spanish airport. It is forecasted that this figure will rise to some 15,000,000 passengers per annum by 2015.
